Meta di Sorrento – An ingenious hiding place, but not enough to escape the expert eye of the Carabinieri. The scene unfolds one evening in the streets of Meta di Sorrento, where officers from the Piano di Sorrento station notice a 24-year-old local man, Damiano Russo, driving his car. He had a criminal record.
They decide to stop him and conduct a search. An initial search, both of the car and the person, reveals nothing illegal. But the young man's behavior, or perhaps an unconvincing detail, prompts the officers to remain vigilant. The car is then subjected to a thorough inspection, meter by meter.
This is where the operation leads to the decisive result.

The hideout, thought to be safe, proved insufficient. Damiano Russo was then arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and taken to the Naples prison, pending a validation hearing and subsequent sentencing.
The operation demonstrates, once again, that the most sought-after hideouts are no guarantee of impunity when faced with the meticulousness of law enforcement engaged in the fight against drug trafficking, even in coastal areas.
