Justice is taking its course in the tragic death of Luigi Daniele Petrella, the sixteen-year-old from Mondragone who lost his life last summer in a dramatic car accident. The preliminary hearing judge has ordered the indictment of the 47-year-old driver of the Fiat Punto that struck the young man's scooter: the charge is extremely serious: voluntary manslaughter.
The events date back to the late evening of June 26th. According to investigators' reconstruction, the man violently struck the sixteen-year-old's scooter, causing him to fall violently onto the pavement, leaving him with no chance of survival. Luigi Daniele passed away a few hours after being rushed to the Pineta Grande Hospital in Castel Volturno, despite doctors' desperate attempts to save his life.
The defendant's conduct immediately following the accident also weighs heavily on his position. The 47-year-old did not stop to provide first aid, disappearing into the darkness. His escape, however, was brief: a swift investigation by the Carabinieri of the Mondragone Territorial Unit quickly identified the vehicle and the driver.
The trial will begin on February 10, 2026, before the First Criminal Section of the Assize Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The victim's parents have filed a civil suit, entrusting their defense to a legal team composed of attorneys Filippo Romano, Mario Daniele Marotta, and Sergio Pisani, ready to fight in court to obtain justice for their son's disappearance.

Melito di Napoli – It was supposed to be a discussion about party planning, about the joy of a little girl torn between her mother and father on Christmas Day. A 12-year-old boy finds himself hospitalised in Intensive Care at the Gaslini hospital in Genoa with a reserved prognosis after being hit by aambulance on emergency duty. The accident occurred this morning around 7:30 a.m. on Via Archimede, just a few meters from the school entrance where the twelve-year-old was about to go to class. The emergency vehicle, with sirens blaring and a patient already intubated on board, struck the child as he was crossing the street. It is still unclear whether the child was crossing at the pedestrian crossing or in the immediate vicinity. The impact was violent: the 118 emergency services responded immediately to the scene, intubated the twelve-year-old and rushed him to the Gaslini Children's Hospital. The Local Police temporarily closed Via Archimede to allow the Accident Unit to accurately reconstruct the events of the accident. Investigators will have to determine the exact responsibilities and any violations of traffic regulations, also considering the legal implications of an accident involving an emergency vehicle. His clinical condition remains critical. According to the Gaslini medical bulletin, the boy arrived at the hospital "hemodynamically stable, but with a case of multiple trauma characterized by a particularly severe head injury." He was immediately transferred to intensive care, where he is undergoing advanced neurological monitoring. The hospital emphasizes that the prognosis remains guarded "due to the complexity of the clinical picture and the need for continuous observation, also in view of the surgical and specialist evaluations that may be necessary."

The accident that led to Luigi's death is truly tragic and makes us reflect on how irresponsible driving can have such serious consequences. I hope justice is served and those responsible are punished.
