Mondragone – A veritable arsenal of explosives, hidden in the heart of the town and ready to invade the black market in preparation for New Year's Eve.
This is the result of an operation conducted by the Mondragone Guardia di Finanza, which led to the seizure of over a ton of illegally held fireworks.
The raid was carried out as part of the "Safe Christmas" plan to intensify security measures, developed by the Caserta Provincial Command to combat the illicit trafficking of fireworks.
The Green Berets' attention focused on a private home in the municipality of Domizio: their suspicions proved well-founded when, inside the garage belonging to the property, the soldiers found themselves faced with a veritable "magazine."
The explosive material, weighing a total of 1.260 kilograms, was stored in a complete lack of basic safety measures and in completely unsuitable conditions. This extremely high-risk situation posed a concrete and grave threat to public safety and the surrounding homes.
The inventory of the massive seizure included approximately 4.000 pyrotechnic products. Among the fireworks available for sale were not only standard commercial fireworks, but also several "cylindrical mortar bombs": high-explosive devices whose use is strictly reserved for professionals with specific licenses and technical knowledge.
At the end of the operation, the owner of the property, a sixty-year-old man from Mondragone, was reported to the judicial authorities at large. He will be charged with the illegal possession of explosive materials. The intervention of the Guardia di Finanza thus removed a significant quantity of dangerous products from the illegal market, preventing potential accidents that too often mar New Year's celebrations.

It's incredible that there are people who think they can hide so much dangerous stuff in a house. Checks should be more frequent to prevent such situations, especially during holidays where there are large gatherings.
