Five kilos of hashish hidden in the trunk of the car, but he won't end up in jail, at least for now. The decision was made by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Nola, Fortuna Basile, who this morning ordered house arrest for GB, a 49-year-old from Barra, represented by criminal lawyer Giuseppe Milazzo.
The man was stopped by the Nola Highway Police late Tuesday afternoon, along the main road near Marigliano. During a check, officers searched his car and found a duffel bag in the back containing 49 blocks of narcotics, weighing approximately 5 kilograms.
Despite the seriousness of the quantity involved and the requests for pre-trial detention made by the Prosecutor's Office, the investigating judge opted for a less severe measure. The judge, considering the defense's arguments, imposed house arrest at the man's home in Barra. The measure, sources note, was applied without requiring an electronic tag.
This decision will allow the 49-year-old to spend the Christmas holidays with his family while awaiting the outcome of the proceedings against him. Attorney Milazzo, contacted, expressed satisfaction with the magistrate's decision, which he deemed "balanced and attentive to the suspect's personal situation," but preferred not to comment further on the merits of the investigation, which is still ongoing.

It's strange how the judge decided not to send a man to prison after finding so much drugs. I wonder if the decision was right or wrong, but perhaps there are reasons we don't know.
