Naples – On New Year's Eve, the Carabinieri (Italian police) are intensifying their operations against the sale and possession of illegal firecrackers. Operations conducted throughout Naples and the surrounding province resulted in the seizure of over 1.600 explosive devices, three arrests, and two charges.
The first intervention took place yesterday evening in the Soccavo neighborhood, where the military caught two men on Viale Traiano while they were selling ten explosive sticks called "Rambo," a commercial name used to indicate devices virtually identical to the infamous "Cobra" devices sadly associated with the serious explosion that occurred in Ercolano in recent months.
They are Vittorio Nardelli, 53, and Roberto Mingione, 26, both from Naples.
During the search, the Carabinieri found another 1.298 similar devices in their car, parked on Viale Catone, some with different names but with identical explosive charges.
In total, approximately 45 kilos of gunpowder were found, an amount believed to be sufficient to destroy the vehicle containing them and cause serious damage within a radius of several meters. The two were arrested and placed under house arrest, awaiting trial.
A second arrest was made in Casoria, where Carabinieri officers from the local station and the operations unit detained Antonio Fusco, 38, originally from Acerra. In the man's home, specifically in his bedroom, they found 350 explosive devices known as "Shark 5," also similar to Cobra. Fusco was transferred to prison and is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

All the seized pyrotechnic material was entrusted to the Bomb Squad of the Naples Provincial Carabinieri Command for safety and subsequent destruction.
The situation was different in Monte di Procida, where the Carabinieri of the local station reported two local merchants found in possession of approximately 115 kilos of explosive material intended for sale without the necessary permits.

It's incredible that there are still people selling illegal firecrackers, despite the risks and consequences. It would be better to educate people more about the dangers these objects can pose, especially during the holidays.
