In Naples, on December 23, 2025, the deed transferring the FS Sistemi Urbani and RFI areas on Via Campegna to the Municipality was signed, a crucial step in enhancing mobility and urban regeneration in the Campi Flegrei area, promising a sustainable future for the community.
Naples – A signature that marks the future of mobility and urban planning in the western part of Naples. Today, December 23, 2025, the City of Naples formalized the acquisition of the areas owned by FS Sistemi Urbani and RFI near the Campi Flegrei train station.
The operation, which covers a total area of approximately 93.000 square meters on Via Campegna, represents the final step towards completing a long-awaited project: the construction of the new depot-workshop and station for Line 6 of the metro.
The new “West Gate” of the city
The project isn't limited to rail logistics. The memorandum of understanding, involving the Campania Region, Parthenope University, and the State Property Agency, aims to radically transform the Fuorigrotta area.
The project includes:
Enhanced intermodality: The new Via Campegna station will allow for seamless interchange between Trenitalia Line 6 and Line 2.

Urban regeneration: The reclamation and reuse of disused railway areas.
Culture and Research: The birth of the new campus of the University of Naples Parthenope, which will integrate the academic center into the redeveloped urban fabric.
For Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, this is a major milestone: "Today we are taking a decisive step forward in improving urban mobility. The acquisition of Via Campegna allows us to solve a long-standing problem and finally fully exploit the potential of Line 6. With the entry into service of all the new trains, this hub will become crucial to the well-being of the entire metropolitan area."
Matteo Colamussi, CEO of FS Sistemi Urbani, also expressed satisfaction: "The sale of these areas is a key step in the development of urban connections. The FS Group confirms its support for the revitalization of sustainable mobility, with direct and tangible benefits for all residents."
A sustainable future
The stated goal is to transform the Campi Flegrei hub into the new "Western Gateway" to Naples. By increasing the frequency of services and creating regenerated spaces for the community, the project aims to reduce private vehicle traffic, encouraging an integrated, modern, and environmentally friendly public transportation system.
What happens next? With the transfer of ownership of the land, construction work on the Via Campegna depot will be able to proceed quickly to ensure the full operation of Line 6. Come on, congratulations!
I read the article and found it interesting, but I'm not sure how it will improve mobility for everyone. I hope construction begins soon so we can see the results. The new station seems like a good idea, but will there be any problems?
