Naples – An extraordinary territorial control service, aimed at combating widespread illegality and ensuring greater security in nightlife areas and university transit areas, saw the Carabinieri of the Naples Bagnoli company engaged.
The operation resulted in reports, seizures of narcotics, and the discovery of improper weapons in the possession of unsuspecting individuals.
Drug dealing in Via Cinthia
The first significant intervention occurred on Via Cinthia, where officers ordered a 24-year-old man with no criminal record to stop. Despite his lack of prior criminal record, the young man's behavior prompted the Carabinieri to conduct a more thorough search.
The hunch proved correct: the man was found in possession of 10 doses of cocaine ready for sale and €370 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity. The young man was immediately reported to the judicial authorities.
An arsenal in the trunk
Also on Via Cinthia, a second patrol stopped a 49-year-old man, also with a clean criminal record. Although there were no drug-related suspicions, the search of the car revealed a disturbing surprise: an axe, a hammer, and a knife were hidden in the trunk of the car.
When asked by the police, the man did not provide any valid justification for carrying such offensive objects. He was also charged at liberty.
Fighting parking attendants and combating drug use
The operation wasn't limited to roadblocks. The Carabinieri also searched the area of Viale Giochi del Mediterraneo, notorious for illegal parking by common criminals. Three illegal parking attendants were intercepted and reported for engaging in this illegal activity.
Finally, in the fight against drug use among young people, the police identified four young men in possession of small quantities of drugs for personal use. The young men were reported to the Prefecture as drug users.
Carabinieri patrols will continue at a constant pace throughout the Bagnoli district and surrounding areas to prevent predatory crime and combat urban decay.

The Carabinieri operation appears to have been effective in combating illegality, but I wonder if it's really enough to solve the nightlife and drug problems. A broader, more sustained approach is needed.
