Fear erupted on Boxing Day afternoon on Via Toledo, in the heart of Naples, where a piece of cornice broke off from a building, sending debris falling onto the street. A young woman was reportedly injured, according to a witness who reported the incident, along with photographs, to Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
Police officers and paramedics from 118 intervened on site to provide assistance and begin operations to secure the area, in one of the city's main streets with the highest pedestrian traffic.
“We are facing a near-tragedy, and unfortunately, Via Toledo is no stranger to similar incidents,” said Borrelli, recalling the precedent of 2014, when Salvatore Giordano lost his life when a cornice fell off near the Galleria Umberto.

The MP called for "immediate intervention" to monitor and maintain the buildings and called for accountability for those who "fail to perform maintenance and put people's safety at risk."

It's strange that accidents like this happen every time. They should check the cornices and structures better. I hope those responsible are punished for their negligence.
The situation in Naples is truly worrying. I don't understand why nothing is being done to improve building safety. The injured girl deserves justice, and the authorities should be more vigilant.
