Naples – A busy night on the Asse Mediano, the scene of a daring chase that led to the arrest of a 26-year-old convicted felon, apprehended by the State Police. The operation is part of the targeted operations launched by the Naples Police Headquarters to intensify the fight against predatory crimes along the main roads.

It all began yesterday evening, when officers from the Frattamaggiore Police Station, during a routine patrol, noticed suspicious movements inside a service area along the Asse Mediano, towards Arzano.

Three people were frantically fiddling with a parked car, most likely in an attempt to steal or dismantle it.

As soon as the criminals caught sight of the officers, the alarm went off. The three immediately jumped into a "relay" vehicle, where a fourth accomplice was already waiting to help them escape.

Crazy maneuvers and abandonment of the vehicle

Thus began a long and dangerous chase. The driver of the fleeing car began a reckless drive, making reckless maneuvers that jeopardized road safety in an attempt to outrun the patrol cars.

The high-speed escape came to an abrupt end when, to avoid being surrounded by other alerted patrols, the four left the main road and headed toward the maze of streets in Arzano. Arriving at Quarta Traversa Sette Re, the fugitives stopped their vehicle and attempted to disappear on foot.

The arrest and the discovery of the "thief's kit"

The officers' response was immediate. After a brief but tense melee, which involved some difficulty and some minor injuries, the officers managed to reach and subdue one of the four occupants, identified as a 26-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record. The other three accomplices managed to escape, but the investigation to identify them is already underway.

Subsequent investigations revealed a serious situation: the car the individuals had been caught tinkering with had recently been stolen on Via Stanzione in Frattamaggiore. But the most significant discovery was made inside the getaway vehicle: officers found and seized a veritable "thief's kit," consisting of various burglary tools, counterfeit keys, universal keys, key code generators, and several modified car control units.

The 26-year-old was arrested for aggravated theft, receiving stolen goods, resisting a public official, and causing bodily harm, and is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
