Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of parliament for the Green and Left Alliance, was attacked between Piazza Cavour and the Sanità district while on an inspection to document widespread lawlessness and road deregulation with Municipality I Councilor Lorenzo Pascucci. The attack was carried out by a woman, a relative of Emanuele Tufano, the fifteen-year-old killed in October 2024 during a shootout between armed groups in the Sanità and Mercato districts.

During the incident, the woman violently struck the deputy in the face and loudly threatened to kill him. The escort officers were also involved in the attack, and they immediately intervened to arrest the woman. Borrelli suffered a closed fracture of the nasal bones with a fractured nasal bone and blunt trauma to the eyeball. His prognosis is fifteen days.

"What happened demonstrates the deep roots of a criminal culture that involves entire families and raises children with the belief that violence is normal, legitimate, even worth defending," Borrelli said. "Too many young people are raised without alternatives, educated to hate institutions, and pushed to identify with a criminal career. When they end up in prison or die, people cry foul, but rarely question the responsibility of those who trained, supported, and encouraged them."

The incident occurred within a regional context marked by a long history of violence linked to Camorra dynamics. Emanuele Tufano lost his life during an unauthorized "stesa," which degenerated into a firefight with a rival group in Piazza Mercato. Five months later, in the same context, Emanuele Durante, a twenty-year-old identified by investigators as the victim of internal retaliation for the fifteen-year-old's death, was killed.

"Anyone who breaks this pattern is attacked, intimidated, chased away. It's happened to those who reported shootings and violence, it's happened to innocent victims forced to leave the neighborhood," the MP added. "The attack I suffered is yet another example of a method based on intimidation."

Only the previous day, in the Sanità district, the Carabinieri of the Naples Investigative Unit had carried out an anti-Camorra raid, arresting eight people, following an order from the investigating judge at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, for illegal possession and carrying of weapons aggravated by mafia-related charges. During the operation, an illegal votive shrine dedicated to Emanuele Tufano, deemed an intimidating symbol, was also removed.

"When these kids are arrested, injured, or killed, the responsibility lies primarily with those who should have educated them about legality, but instead pushed them toward a criminal career," Borrelli said. "The real killers are often their own relatives, ready to take to the streets and set the city ablaze to defend armed criminals, but incapable of saying a word for the real victims."

"My attack confirms their methods. The raids and the removal of intimidating symbols are good, but the State must remain present every day. Without continuity, these territories will immediately fall back into the hands of criminals. I thank the Prefect and the Police Headquarters for immediately making me feel their support," the MP concluded.
