Naples like a Formula One racetrack. This is the powerful image chosen by a group of citizens who, in an open letter addressed to the mayor, councilors, and aldermen, are once again highlighting one of the city's most pressing issues: road safety.
The latest incident, yet another, occurred at dawn in Fuorigrotta, adding to a list of accidents that grows daily in number and severity. A phenomenon that, the signatories emphasize, knows no time or neighborhood and has a significant impact on the quality of life and safety of residents.
"It is no longer acceptable to live in constant fear that leaving home could become a mortal danger," they write, calling for immediate, and especially structural, interventions. Among their requests is the need to significantly limit private traffic from the north to the south of the city, focusing on more orderly traffic and long-term solutions.
Citizens are also calling for compliance with European regulations, which require municipalities to adopt adequate measures regarding mobility and road safety, and are demanding a concrete commitment from the municipal administration.
The appeal concludes with a message that is both affectionate and concerned: Naples, they reiterate, "deserves to be a livable, safe city that respects the lives of its citizens."

The article is interesting and highlights serious road safety issues in Naples. But I wonder if the city officials will actually listen to these citizens' concerns, or if it will just be another ignored plea.
