Naples - A veritable blitz of incivility that repeats itself every weekend, transforming the area of the Mergellina Metro station into a free zone for illegal parking. Residents of Corso Vittorio Emanuele have reached their limit with the rampant phenomenon that sees the entire square in front of the station and the surrounding streets invaded by cars parked in defiance of every rule of the Highway Code.
The finger is pointed in particular at the customers of a well-known local sandwich shop who, often with the connivance and complicity of illegal parking attendants, leave their cars everywhere, creating not only traffic chaos, but also social chaos.
The video complaint and the appeal to Borrelli
Exasperation prompted residents to document the shameful spectacle with videos and photos, sending the material to the Green Left MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli. The footage shows an alarming situation:
Seats reserved for disabled people are systematically occupied.
Wheelchair ramps completely blocked.
Driveways blocked, preventing access and exit from garages and private yards.
No parking sign along the roadway ignored.
Borrelli: "We need zero tolerance."
Representative Borrelli raised the alarm, calling the situation "yet another demonstration of rampant incivility that penalizes residents and endangers everyone's safety."
"Disabled parking spaces shamelessly occupied, wheelchair ramps blocked, driveways obstructed, cars left everywhere with the complicity of illegal parking attendants: an unworthy scene for a city that claims to be civilized," thundered Borrelli, emphasizing the seriousness of the blockade of parking spaces dedicated to the most vulnerable citizens.
For the MP, the solution cannot be limited to spot interventions: "This is an unsustainable situation. Law enforcement must intervene consistently and decisively: occasional raids aren't enough; we need constant checks and heavy fines."
Mergellina's accusation is clear: "It is unacceptable that those who respect the rules must endure the arrogance and insolence of those who use public space as if it were their own backyard." Borrelli assured that he will continue to monitor the matter, promising to push for immediate action to ensure that "Mergellina is not abandoned to unauthorized parking and illegality."
