The State Police continues its relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking in the neighborhoods of Naples. Last night, extraordinary operations deployed by the Police Headquarters led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement for drug offenses.
The incident occurred on Via Parma, in the heart of the Vasto Arenaccia district. Officers from the neighborhood police station, conducting a patrol, noticed a man who, upon seeing them, suddenly changed direction and attempted to suspiciously run away.
The police, sensing his escape, immediately followed him. After a brief but frantic foot chase, they managed to catch up and subdue him, though the man put up some resistance.
When searched on the spot, the 37-year-old was found in possession of a veritable drug dealing kit: 16 doses of cocaine (for a total weight of approximately 4 grams) and 10 small bags of marijuana (approximately 11 grams). He also had €585 in small bills in his pockets, presumably the proceeds of retail sales of the drugs.
The man was then taken to prison pending trial for the crimes of illicit possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing and resisting a public official.
"The incident confirms the effectiveness of targeted services and constant surveillance in the area," commented a source at the police station, emphasizing how individual initiative by officers and knowledge of neighborhood dynamics are crucial to intercepting and suppressing street drug dealing.
The operation is part of a broader plan of extraordinary checks ordered by the Naples Police Chief to increase the presence of law enforcement in the city's most sensitive areas and nip drug deals in the bud.
