Naples – Not even Christmas Eve stopped the escalation of violence in the suburbs of Naples. It was around 22:00 PM yesterday when, on Via Argine, in the Ponticelli neighborhood, a 25-year-old man became the target of a brutal robbery attempt that ended in bloodshed.
According to initial reports from the State Police, the young man—a local with no criminal record—was waiting at the bus stop when he was approached by a man, described as a foreign citizen, armed with a knife.
What was supposed to be a "simple" exchange of a wallet or cell phone turned into a violent attack in a matter of moments: when the victim resisted, and she instinctively tried to break free and escape her attacker, the criminal responded by striking her twice in the back.
Rescue and investigations
Immediately after the attack, the attacker fled, disappearing into the darkness of the eastern suburbs. The 25-year-old was rescued and rushed to Ospedale del Mare. Despite the depth of the wounds and the delicate area affected, doctors ruled out any life-threatening injuries. After the necessary treatment and stitches, the young man was discharged with a fortunately unthreatening prognosis.
State Police officers have already conducted investigations at the scene and are combing through video surveillance footage in the area to identify the attacker. Tensions remain high in the neighborhood over an incident that has reignited the debate over safety at nighttime public transportation stops.
