A large influx of tourists and a breath of fresh air for the Campania economy ahead of the Immaculate Conception long weekend. According to forecasts by the Confesercenti Campania research center, the long weekend of December 6-8 will generate a total turnover of over €212 million, including revenue from accommodation facilities and related activities for bars, restaurants, retail, artisans, and services.
Campania, led by Naples, remains among the most popular destinations for Italian and international visitors for this first leg of the Christmas season. "Extending the weekend to three nights and four days will allow our hotel and retail businesses to benefit from significant revenue," explains Vincenzo Schiavo, president of Confesercenti Campania and national vice president with responsibility for Southern Italy.
According to estimates, approximately 430 tourists are expected to arrive in the region, over 200 of whom will be concentrated in the Neapolitan capital. The hospitality sector—hotels and other accommodations—is expected to generate revenues of approximately €148 million, with an additional €64 million in spending on retail, crafts, bars, restaurants, souvenirs, and related services.
Accommodations will average 78% occupancy, with higher peaks in Naples and the coastal towns and lower percentages in other regional destinations. Per capita spending is estimated at approximately €65 per night for accommodation, plus an average of €50 per day for other expenses, including shopping, dining, bars, and the purchase of gadgets and artisanal products.

Naples, once again, is driving the entire regional tourism system. More than 200 visitors are expected in the capital city alone, with a turnover of approximately €85 million for accommodation facilities, equal to 57% of the regional total, and an estimated induced effect of approximately €40 million, 60% of the total non-hospitality spending.
To these numbers must be added the so-called "tourist commuters": every day, in the capital alone, an additional influx of approximately 10 visitors is expected, including groups arriving on 80 tour buses (7-8 people) and train passengers (about another 2.500). This constant flow, in effect, further amplifies the economic impact of the bridge.
For Confesercenti Campania, the challenge now is to maintain a high standard of hospitality. "The Immaculate Conception long weekend is the first step in the Christmas season, which will see a further increase in visitors ahead of Christmas and New Year's," Schiavo emphasizes.
The tourism boom shows no signs of slowing down, and it will be increasingly crucial to ensure quality services, punctual transportation, and a competitive offering, also to deseasonalize traffic and ensure year-round attendance.
