The Naples Prosecutor's Office has delegated to the State Police the execution of a pre-trial detention order against a 23-year-old man considered to be seriously suspected of aggravated robbery, resisting a public officer, and assault, a repeat offender. The incident at the center of the investigation dates back to last July, when on Via Scarlatti, in San Giorgio a Cremano, an off-duty inspector from the Ponticelli Police Station noticed a white motorcycle parked next to a large orange motorbike. He saw the passenger "tamper with the motorcycle's lock and then climb aboard, aided by his accomplice."
The officer had moved his car to prevent the escape, forcing the young man to abandon the recently stolen motorcycle. The 23-year-old attempted to flee on foot after a struggle, while his accomplice attempted to catch him on the white motorcycle. In the commotion, the inspector had nevertheless managed to note the vehicle's license plate, which was registered to the suspect's mother and used by the suspect.
Subsequent investigations allowed the Ponticelli Police Station to reconstruct the incident, identify the young man, and request the precautionary measure, which was executed in the past few hours. This measure, issued during the preliminary investigation phase, is appealable, and concerns a person who, as required by law, must be considered innocent until a final sentence is reached.
