Yesterday morning, the Carabinieri of the Nola branch responded to a report of a dog in an obviously abandoned state. The call, received by the operations center, reported an animal left alone and in possible danger.
Within minutes, a patrol arrived at the indicated location, but there was no sign of the dog or its alleged owner, a 38-year-old local man. The lack of immediate confirmation, however, did not stop the officers' investigation, who decided to investigate further.
By analyzing images from the city's video surveillance cameras and gathering information in the area, the Carabinieri of the Nola mobile radio unit, with the support of the Marigliano forest rangers, were able to reconstruct what had happened in the preceding hours.
The investigation revealed that a 50-year-old man, driving a van, had reached the 38-year-old's home and then left, taking two Amstaff dogs with him.
Having located the vehicle, the officers proceeded to inspect it and found the two animals on board. The dogs, apparently in good condition but still subject to thorough veterinary examinations, were seized and handed over to animal welfare authorities.
The 38-year-old and 50-year-old men are currently being examined by the judicial authorities. Both men face possible charges of animal abuse and abandonment, which will be assessed in light of the ongoing investigations.
