The overnight raid turns into a scuffle with the Carabinieri. Ernesto Cavallaro is arrested with 16 grams of drugs, but the judge orders his immediate release after a summary hearing.

Castellammare di Stabia – A routine check turns into a chase, followed by violence against uniforms, and finally handcuffs. This is the outcome of a turbulent night in the alleys of Castellammare di Stabia, where the shadow of drug dealing continues to loom large over the very young.

The protagonist of the story is Ernesto Cavallaro, just 18 years old, who ended up at the center of an operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the local company, engaged in the fight against petty crime and the sale of illicit substances.

The incident occurred in the dead of night. A Carabinieri patrol intercepted two young men whose behavior immediately aroused suspicion: furtive glances, rapid movements, the classic sign of someone with something to hide. Upon seeing the flashing lights, they attempted to flee. While the accomplice managed to escape by exploiting his knowledge of the urban maze, Cavallaro's escape ended almost immediately, but not without consequences.

The 18-year-old, attempting to evade arrest, engaged in a violent struggle with officers. Pushing and physical resistance were not enough to prevent him from being arrested, but they did aggravate his situation. A personal search later revealed the reason for his agitation: approximately 16 grams of narcotics were found in the young man's pockets, an amount investigators believe was intended for retail distribution.

The charges filed are serious: resisting a public officer and possession with intent to sell drugs. Cavallaro spent the night in custody, awaiting a summary hearing scheduled for the following morning at the Torre Annunziata Courthouse.

The validation hearing took place before the single judge, Dr. Ceppaluni. Assisted by his lawyer, Gennaro De Gennaro, the young man faced the judicial authorities' judgment. Despite the seriousness of his resistance to the Carabinieri and the seizure of the drugs, the defense strategy achieved the desired result: the judge, while upholding the arrest made by the police, did not impose restrictive precautionary measures. Ernesto Cavallaro was thus released a few hours after his arrest.

While the criminal case continues, the Carabinieri investigation continues. The objective now is twofold: to identify the accomplice who managed to escape in the darkness and to map the source of those 16 grams of drugs, yet another piece of a criminal mosaic increasingly involving young men who have just turned 18.

The article highlights a serious problem facing today's youth, but I believe the issue is much more complex than it appears. The social circumstances that lead to these behaviors must also be considered.
