The City of Naples isn't ruling out the possibility of a new stadium for SSC Napoli, but it's urging everyone to keep their feet firmly on the ground. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi clarified Palazzo San Giacomo's position, speaking on the sidelines of an America's Cup event at the Marie Curie Institute in Ponticelli.
"We are in constant contact with Minister Abodi to find positive solutions for the city's opportunities, including for the European Championships," Manfredi explained, emphasizing the ongoing dialogue with the government. Regarding the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the mayor reiterated that work has already begun: "We are moving forward on the Maradona project, both on the planning and on sourcing resources. We are trying to move forward with concrete prospects."
The possibility of a new stadium in the Caramanico market area is more complex. Again, Manfredi is keen to point out that there is no political preclusion: "We have never been against the possibility of a new stadium. If the club wants to build a new stadium, we are absolutely in favor." Soon after, however, conditions arise that make the project anything but simple. "It's clear that it must be a viable option," warns the mayor, addressing the critical issues of the identified area.
"Caramanico is a market with 500 dealers with long-term concessions, so it's really very difficult to move everyone from there because they have a right," Manfredi explains, noting that the issue of acquired rights represents a significant obstacle. Added to this is the issue of timing: "I've said this from the beginning, especially because we have a fairly tight timetable for the European Championships."
The administration's stance remains focused on dialogue, but without shortcuts. "The City Council is always engaged in dialogue," the mayor concludes, "but only on matters that are technically feasible." A clear message to the club: maximum openness, but only for concrete and sustainable projects.

Naples is strengthening its video surveillance network and touting the results achieved in urban security. "In the City of Naples, we have 1.200 active cameras; 95% are currently functioning." Gaetano Manfredi provided the update at the end of the provincial committee for public order and safety, which met in Caivano in the presence of Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. The message is clear: "The issue is not installing them, but ensuring maintenance and power supply, which had not been guaranteed in the past."
The mayor emphasizes the system's concrete effectiveness. "In recent news stories, all the perpetrators have been identified with our cameras," including the incident involving the shooting of Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane's brother in the Spanish Quarter. This fact reinforces the city administration's strategy and paves the way for the next phase. "We have a tender awarded for 350 new cameras, which will be installed in the coming months."
