Carmine Siano is out of danger. The 64-year-old mayor of Castiglione del Genovesi has successfully recovered from the long and delicate surgery required after the brutal attack he suffered on Boxing Day.
The operation, performed at the Ruggi d'Aragona University Hospital in Salerno, lasted approximately five hours. In the operating room, the team led by the head of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Mauro Nese, worked tirelessly to reduce the multiple fractures suffered by the mayor.
The toll of the beating was dramatic: his left leg and ankle, left forearm, right hand, and left ear were all damaged. High-level surgery allowed doctors to save a joint in his hand, which initially had been feared to be amputated.
With his clinical condition now stabilized, attention is now turning to the investigation. In the past few hours, Siano has been interviewed by the Carabinieri directly from his hospital bed. The victim's testimony is considered crucial: the mayor has provided investigators with detailed information about the events of Friday evening, when a masked man attacked him, repeatedly hitting him with a crowbar (or a stick).
The Carabinieri, thanks in part to Siano's words, are closing in on the attacker. The investigation is proceeding rapidly to identify the perpetrator of an act that has deeply shaken the Picentini community.
