Pordenone – The Pordenone community is experiencing a Christmas of pain and dismay.
What was supposed to be a carefree afternoon of sports with friends on the eve of the holidays turned into a tragedy that left no escape for a 15-year-old boy, who died suddenly from an illness during a soccer match.
The dynamics of the accident
The tragedy unfolded late yesterday afternoon, December 24th, on a small pitch on the outskirts of the city. According to initial reports, the young man—of foreign origin but a longtime resident of the city—was participating in a friendly match with some peers.
During a game, he allegedly collided with another player. A seemingly ordinary impact, however, was followed by the immediate collapse of the fifteen-year-old, who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
The companions, immediately realizing the gravity of the situation, alerted the emergency services via the single emergency number 112.
Rescue and death
The emergency response team was quickly activated. Emergency personnel, arriving on the scene with an ambulance and medical car, found the boy in critical condition. For several minutes, doctors attempted to save him from death: he was intubated on the scene and given prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
After initial stabilization, a desperate rush to the emergency room at Santa Maria degli Angeli Hospital followed. Despite the efforts of the Pordenone hospital's doctors, the boy's heart stopped beating shortly after his arrival.
Mourning in the local football world
The news has hit the amateur football world in Friuli hard. The fifteen-year-old was a registered athlete with the youth teams of ASD Torre, a historic club in the Pordenone area, where he played in the Under-16 team. Described as a cheerful boy with a passion for the sport, his passing leaves an irreplaceable void among his teammates and the coaching staff.
Messages of condolence are pouring in on social media and in the neighborhood, as the city ponders such a premature and violent death, which occurred just when football should have been a simple excuse to celebrate the arrival of Christmas.
