Procida – An island without a post office worthy of the name. For over sixty days, the citizens of Procida have been forced to contend with a bare-bones service: a mobile office set up inside a camper. An emergency solution that was meant to be temporary, but is turning every bureaucratic transaction into a veritable odyssey for the local population.
The physical headquarters of Poste Italiane is undergoing major extraordinary maintenance, which has forced its complete closure. While for younger people and those familiar with digital technology, the problem can be contained through apps and web portals, for a large portion of the population, the reality is endless lines on the sidewalk.
Hardships for the vulnerable
The alarm is spreading across social media, but it's especially resonating in front of that camper. The greatest challenges are affecting the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable, forced to wait their turn in the elements. With the arrival of winter and frequent rainy days, the lack of a covered waiting room has become a social emergency. The situation is no better for the company's employees, forced to work in cramped and logistically complex spaces, with obvious repercussions on the speed of service.
The popular mobilization
The patience of the Procida residents is now exhausted. A popular petition was officially launched in the last few hours: a collective complaint that will be forwarded to Poste Italiane's management and the relevant authorities. The goal is clear: to demand a significant acceleration of the work schedule or, alternatively, the immediate identification of suitable premises to temporarily house the counters, guaranteeing dignity and shelter for both users and workers.
