Prato, – First a car search through the city center, then an ambush from behind, and finally a ruthless attack. The escape from justice of a 50-year-old businessman, owner of several public establishments, accused of nearly killing a man on the evening of October 26th, ended with his arrest and transfer to the Dogaia prison.
The ambush and the manhunt
According to the reconstruction of the Prato Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Luca Tescaroli, the 50-year-old (originally from Naples but residing in Quarrata) organized a veritable punitive expedition. His partner accompanied him by car in the search for the victim.
The target was intercepted on Via Rolando Pagli: here, the 46-year-old was surprised from behind, punched, and then kicked in the head while he lay helpless on the asphalt. Only the intervention of a woman close to the victim prevented the beating from ending in immediate tragedy.
A chilling detail emerges from the Carabinieri investigation: shortly before the attack, the victim had taken drugs in the restrooms of the "Hop and Drop," a club linked to the arrested man. This circumstance would have left him completely incapable of reacting or defending himself from his attacker's fury.
The 46-year-old's condition remains dire. After a period in a deep coma and requiring intubation for severe neck injuries, he is currently hospitalized with a diagnosis of flaccid tetraplegia and permanent damage to the brain's nerve connections. Experts describe this condition as a result of a "concrete and ongoing life-threatening situation."
The investigations and the cover-ups
The businessman was incriminated by city surveillance footage, wiretapped phone conversations, and, most importantly, the Investigative Unit's technical investigations of his clothing and footwear, which confirmed his direct participation in the beating.
Initially, the suspect attempted to provide an alternative version of events, which investigators deemed completely unreliable. The man's partner also got into trouble: she was charged with making false statements to the public prosecutor.
