The seventh edition of the Carla Russo Prize shined a spotlight on brain tumor research, celebrating yesterday in Pimonte the commitment of young talents and a veteran scientist, Professor Paolo Ascierto, who received the special Carla Russo Prize. The initiative, conceived by the Palummo family, continues the path of promoting oncology research in Campania and aims to strengthen the regional clinical and scientific network.

During the conference, entitled “What is the best strategy for diagnosing and treating brain tumors in Campania?”Ascierto emphasized the importance of the oncology network and the speed of research: "Research has accelerated significantly, and clinical trials can change history. Excellent brain tumor research is being conducted in Campania, and now we need to translate the results into concrete benefits for patients."

The conference featured distinguished speakers, including Professor Giuseppe Catapano, who highlighted how the creation of the Campania Observatory and Institute for Neurosciences has allowed for the unification of treatments and protocols, achieving results comparable to, if not superior to, those of major national centers. Professor Luigi Mansi emphasized the international impact of the award, which transforms patients' pain into hope through research.

The nine young researchers awarded include Luca Bertero and Angelo Dipasquale for the Under-40 category, Lorena Picori for the Postgraduate Thesis, Michela Buonaiuto and Francesca Vitulli for the theses defended in Campania, Edoardo Pronello for the best thesis, and Federica Novi for the best thesis in Campania on the use of artificial intelligence in neuro-oncological radiotherapy. Finally, Rosa Della Monica and Denis Audi of Ceinge received awards for the best abstracts presented at the 28th AINO Residential Congress.
