Naples — Recent reports have highlighted severe overcrowding at the Ospedale del Mare emergency room, with waits exceeding five hours, raising concerns about the quality of care.
Naples — Waiting room crowding and hours-long waits are emerging from a new report recently received by Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli regarding the emergency room at the Ospedale del Mare.
The report is accompanied by a video recorded in recent days: the images show numerous patients waiting between occupied seats, people standing, and wheelchair users, in a context described as highly uncomfortable.
According to the video's creator, the wait for a consultation began around 13:30 PM and continued past 18:20 PM. The video also shows patients in distress, including a man with a visibly swollen leg, which, according to the reconstruction provided, was fractured, who remained waiting for several hours. According to the video's creator, a woman fainted during the wait and was supported by medical staff.
The video's author himself emphasizes that the critical issues are not attributable to the operators present, but to a structural situation that, he says, recurs frequently.

"It's unacceptable that residents are forced to wait interminably in extremely uncomfortable conditions in one of the city's main hospitals," Borrelli stated. "The problem is clear: staffing shortages. Doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers are working under pressure, often in insufficient numbers to cope with the influx of patients."
"It is necessary to act immediately," he concludes, "by hiring new staff and reviewing all the rankings of the competitions already held, without further delays. Public healthcare must be defended with facts, ensuring timely and dignified care and protecting both citizens and healthcare workers."

The situation at the Ospedale del Mare is truly worrying, with patients forced to wait long hours. Action should be taken to improve the working conditions of healthcare workers and the quality of care provided to residents in emergency situations.
