Naples – The post-De Luca era officially begins in Campania with a sign of strong unity from the new majority. Massimiliano Manfredi, a prominent member of the Democratic Party, was elected President of the Campania Regional Council this morning. The election took place during the inaugural session of the 12th Legislature, initially chaired by senior councilor Fernando Errico (Forza Italia).

Manfredi, 52, originally from San Paolo Belsito and brother of Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, garnered a cross-party consensus, receiving 41 votes out of 51, a threshold that testifies to the strength of the coalition supporting the new Regional President, Roberto Fico.

The numbers of the ballot box
The outcome of the vote left little room for surprises, although there were some small signals from the minority and "nostalgic" benches:

Massimiliano Manfredi: 41 votes

Blank ballots: 6

Invalid ballots: 2 (one of which bore the name of former governor Vincenzo De Luca, no longer present in the chamber)

Luca Trapanese: 1 vote

Lucia Fortini: 1 vote

Towards the new government: Fico's influence
Immediately after his election, the newly elected president, Manfredi, outlined his priorities for the coming days, with his eyes fixed on Palazzo Santa Lucia. The key issue remains the formation of the government team that will support Roberto Fico.

"President Fico is working to define the government, which, for the first time, will have a much stronger political imprimatur than in previous years," Manfredi declared on the sidelines of the meeting.

The intention is clear: the aim is for a government with direct involvement from the coalition parties, marking a break from the past. Manfredi then reassured the government regarding the timing: "We are fully in agreement. The goal is to speed up the administrative process; we have urgent deadlines, starting with the budget law, which has been postponed and which represents our top priority for guaranteeing services to citizens."

A strategic axis for Naples and Campania
The election of Massimiliano Manfredi consolidates an unprecedented political axis: with the presidency of the Regional Council in his hands and the leadership of the Municipality of Naples entrusted to his brother Gaetano, the political center of gravity of the region appears to be shifting toward coordinated management between the two entities, a factor that will be crucial for the management of the PNRR funds and major infrastructure projects.
