Naples – The state is making its presence felt once again in the heart of the Sanità district, dismantling the clan's military network and demolishing the symbols of criminal power.

At dawn today, December 18, 2025, the Carabinieri of the Naples Investigative Unit executed a precautionary custody order against eight individuals, considered seriously suspected of illegal possession and carrying of firearms, aggravated by mafia methods.

The Sequino-Savarese arsenal

The investigation, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and conducted between 2024 and 2025, revealed the existence of a veritable arsenal at the criminal group's disposal. The weapons were not simply defense tools, but the means necessary to assert territorial control and ensure the hegemony of the Sequino-Savarese cartel.

Technical investigations have documented not only the availability of guns and ammunition, but also the hiding places used to conceal them, ready to be opened to redefine the criminal balance of the neighborhood.

Down with the altar of Emanuele Tufano

Today's operation has a highly symbolic as well as judicial significance. Along with the arrests and widespread searches, law enforcement officers also removed an illegal votive shrine erected in the heart of the Sanità district.

The shrine had been "built" to pay homage to Emanuele Tufano, the young man killed at just 15 years old on the night of October 24, 2024. That "monument" was not just a place of remembrance, but according to investigators it represented a territorial mark, a seal that celebrated belonging to the Camorra logic even after death.

The trail of blood and the trial

The removal of the newsstand reopens a never-healed wound in the city's social fabric and is closely linked to recent judicial developments. Tufano's murder occurred during a violent firefight between gangs of very young men: the Sanità group on one side, the Mercato group on the other.

Just in recent weeks, the Prosecutor's Office requested a trial for those alleged to be responsible for that night of madness. A gun commando turned the streets of Naples into a Wild West, ending the life of a minor and injuring others. Today's operation closes the circle, targeting those who, in that context of youth violence and organized crime, continued to arm themselves to maintain power.
