Naples – The Sannino De Cillis High School in Ponticelli was the scene of a violent brawl on Wednesday afternoon, an incident that led to four students, some of them minors, being charged.

The fight, which broke out in the schoolyard, involved kicks, punches, and, in an escalation of violence, even a scooter helmet used as a weapon to repeatedly strike.

While attempting to quell the riot, a school employee was injured after bravely intervening to separate the angry brawlers. The man, an innocent victim of the brawl, was punched in the face and other parts of his body while trying to push the attackers away. Fortunately, he was found not to be involved in the aggravated brawl charges currently pending against the four youths identified by the State Police.

The shadow of social media behind the attack

Investigations by officers from the Ponticelli police station are ongoing to determine the exact motive for the brawl. However, rumors are circulating in the hallways and among the small groups of students linking the fight to previous clashes and online arguments on social media.

It seems that hatred has matured in the digital world, transforming an online challenge or insult into physical violence. After school, a word or a glance too many sparked anger between two opposing pairs of friends. The situation quickly escalated, going beyond simple slaps: one of the young men brandished his helmet, violently hurling it at the heads and torsos of his opponents.

The testimony and the cameras

The injured school worker was the first piece of evidence in reconstructing the incident. His testimony, crucial to law enforcement, will be supported by video surveillance footage outside the school on Via Camillo dei Meis.

Reading this article makes me think about how young people today no longer know how to manage conflicts without resorting to violence. I hope there are measures to prevent such incidents in the future, especially in schools.
