Francolise – It's a time of grief, but also of questions that still have no definitive answers. Rocco Amato, the 32-year-old from Sant'Andrea del Pizzone (a hamlet of Francolise) who tragically passed away in Barcelona on November 22nd, is returning home.

The body is scheduled to land tomorrow evening at Capodichino Airport: the final journey of a boy who had made the world his home, from California to Berlin, but who now returns to his homeland to say his final farewell.

Mourning and solidarity

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 15:00 PM in the church of "San Germano Vescovo." Father Sandro, mother Alba, and an entire community in shock will await the coffin.

They won't be alone: friends from all over Europe are expected, the "extended family" Rocco had built through his passion for techno music and his work as an event organizer. This appreciation is palpable, demonstrated by the solidarity campaign launched by his friends: in just a few hours, nearly €20 was raised to support the family with repatriation and legal expenses, a tribute to the generosity of a young man described by all as a free spirit.

The "mystery" of the last moments

As the farewell is being prepared, the circumstances surrounding Rocco's death remain unclear. Rocco fell from a height of ten meters into a parking lot, but what happened beforehand? Catalan police are suggesting the accident was the result of a fatal distraction, but the family is seeking clarity. A video shows the 32-year-old walking quickly, phone in hand, moments before the tragedy.

Casting a shadow of mystery is the story of his aunt, Rosanna Miraglia, who reconstructs a crucial detail: Rocco wasn't well. "He'd been suffering from severe headaches lately," she explains, "and that day a friend had taken him to the hospital."

This is where the time black hole opens: the friend, after seeing Rocco enter the hospital, apparently left for a few minutes to get a sandwich. When he returned, Rocco was nowhere to be found. There's no record of him formally entering the hospital. Why did he leave? Was he confused by the pain?

The investigation continues in Italy

The young man was found lifeless hours later, in the parking lot. What was he doing there? The answers may be stored on his smartphone. The device was recovered and handed over by his family to the Carabinieri, who will now have to unlock it to analyze his messages, calls, and movements during those dramatic hours.

The condolences of the institutions

On the day of the funeral, Francolise will remain closed. Mayor Saturnino Di Benedetto announced a day of mourning: "Rocco was a son of our land," the mayor stated. "He traveled the world, but his roots were here. His broken life is a profound wound for the entire community."
