During an operation aimed at ensuring the quality of fuels on the market, the Salerno Finance Police seized a tank containing over 43.000 liters of unleaded gasoline, which was found to be unsuitable for use in fueling.
The tests, carried out through specific analytical samples, highlighted that the product did not comply with the limits set by environmental legislation regarding octane number, making it unsuitable for use in vehicles.
Further analyses conducted by the Customs Agency laboratory revealed the presence of a heavier hydrocarbon fraction, similar to diesel fuel, estimated to constitute around 6% of the sample. This anomaly confirms the presence of unauthorized blending, posing potential risks to the environment, public health, and road safety.
This is not an isolated case: already in September, during a tax investigation against the same company, it was discovered that the company had held and sold over 67.000 liters of automotive diesel fuel that was unsuitable for carburetion due to a low flash point resulting from mixing it with other chemical substances.
The Finance Police of the Salerno Economic and Financial Police Unit have reported the legal representative of the commercial warehouse to the Public Prosecutor's Office for commercial fraud and the possession and use of energy products obtained from clandestine manufacturing or unauthorized blending.
The use of chemically altered fuels can compromise the proper functioning of engines, increase polluting emissions, and jeopardize driver safety. Therefore, inspections by the Italian Revenue Agency (FIA) are aimed not only at ensuring compliance with tax obligations, but also at protecting product quality, price transparency, and consumer safety.
