A joint operation between Italy and Canada has allowed the interception of Salerno Ten high-powered vehicles, stolen in Canada and headed to Guinea. The seizure, estimated at approximately €500.000, was the result of cooperation between the Campania 2 Customs and Monopolies Office, the Salerno Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza, the Maritime and Air Border Police, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the Canadian Embassy in Italy.
The investigation began following a tip from the Canadian police, transmitted via the Central Directorate of the Italian Criminal Police. The Border Police Office identified a suspicious container containing three cars stolen in Canada, while analysis of commercial documents and cargo flows allowed them to extend the investigation to a total of eleven containers originating from the port of Montreal.
The inspection revealed that nine of the ten vehicles had altered chassis numbers, while a tenth vehicle was intended to cover the cargo. All the cars will be repatriated and returned to their rightful owners. Investigations are continuing to identify the perpetrators of the illegal trafficking and dismantle the international network attempting to sell the vehicles on the black market.
