In Sorrento, the Carabinieri arrested two men for over 220 fish thefts, causing €700 in damages to a local business. The investigation, launched after an arrest in flagrante delicto, revealed an organized network of nighttime thefts, aggravated by the use of duplicate keys.

This morning, the Carabinieri of the Sorrento Company executed a house arrest warrant against two men, a 60-year-old from Piano di Sorrento and a 41-year-old from Torre Annunziata, considered seriously suspected of over 220 incidents of aggravated theft, committed jointly.

The order was issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Torre Annunziata Court at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The measurements were carried out between Piano di Sorrento, in the Naples area, and Angri, in the Salerno area.

According to investigators' reconstruction, the events occurred in Sorrento between March 2023 and December 2024. The two suspects, both employees of a local fish trading company, allegedly stole large quantities of fish by breaking into the company's premises at night using an illegally obtained duplicate key. The thefts, hundreds according to investigators, were apparently carried out on the orders of a third party, who was responsible for purchasing the goods and arranging their subsequent resale.

The financial damage suffered by the business owner was estimated at over 700 euros, partly due to the high value of the stolen catch and the use of fraudulent means.

The investigation, conducted by the Sorrento Carabinieri Station and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, began with the arrest, almost in flagrante delicto, of one of the two suspects, apprehended on the night of December 17, 2024, while transporting other stolen goods. Analysis of video surveillance footage and examination of cell phones were crucial for investigators, allowing them to reconstruct the entire sequence of the thefts and pin the blame on the suspects arrested today.

After the formal procedures were completed, both were placed under house arrest at their respective homes. The charges remain under judicial review.

This story of fish thefts in Sorrento is incredible. It's unbelievable how two men could commit so many thefts without being stopped first. €700 is a lot of money; who knows how they'll behave now?
