At dawn, in the heart of the Land of Fires, a new operation was launched by the Carabinieri of the Mondragone Territorial Unit. In just a few hours, the officers traversed a crucial quadrant of the Caserta area—Mondragone, Carinola, Francolise, and Castel Volturno—scouring agricultural land, artisanal businesses, and peripheral areas where abandonment and illegal waste management remain a daily scourge.
Four seizures, six reports, and a clear picture of the degradation that continues to creep into the countryside, streets, and residential areas.
Mondragone – A ghost landfill appears in the Palazzi Azzurri neighborhood.
Among the reinforced concrete pillars of an unfinished building, in the Palazzi Azzurri spaces, the Carabinieri found a swath of waste that had settled over time: metals from mechanical processes, plastics, construction waste, materials now incorporated into the soil like toxic roots.
An area of approximately 2.000 square meters has been transformed into an illegal landfill, far from prying eyes. Three people, all residents of the Caserta area, have been charged with illegal waste management, while the entire area has been seized.
Carinola – Unauthorized welding and fumes: Workshop closed
In Nocelleto, checks by the Carinola Carabinieri Station and the Sessa Aurunca Forestry Unit led to the discovery of a metalworking workshop completely lacking the required environmental permits.

Uncontrolled atmospheric emissions, hazardous waste treated without permits, and untraceable manufacturing waste: a situation that led to the owner being reported and the seizure of the business, covering approximately 100 square meters.
Francolise – Signs of fire in the agricultural land
In the hamlet of Sant'Andrea del Pizzone, among greenhouses and crops, the Carabinieri identified a portion of land where agricultural waste had been abandoned—and partly burned.
Melted plastic sheeting, warped irrigation channels, and styrofoam boxes scattered across the ground: a patchwork of decay that led to two owners being charged with dumping non-hazardous waste. Approximately 80 square meters of land were seized.
Castel Volturno – A domestic landfill site on the roadside
On Viale Domenico Guidi, near the homes, the Carabinieri found piles of abandoned waste: old furniture, demolition debris, fragments of sanitary fixtures, and tires piled up at the edge of the asphalt.
A portion of approximately 50 square meters was transformed into a micro-site for illegal dumping. The municipal area was seized and placed in judicial custody of the mayor pro tempore.
The extraordinary operation, which involved four municipalities in just a few hours, represents a new step in combating environmental crimes in the Land of Fires, an area that still bears the brunt of years of abuse. The judicial authorities have been informed and will proceed with further investigations.
