At dawn today, officers from the Torre Annunziata Police Station executed a precautionary detention order against a 49-year-old man, a resident of the same city.
The order, issued by the investigating judge of the Oplonti court at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, comes at the end of a thorough investigation into the serious charges of aggravated robbery in conjunction with an as yet unidentified accomplice.
The double whammy
According to the investigative reconstruction, on May 6th, two armed men broke into two stores of the Decò chain, striking within minutes of each other.
The first target was the supermarket in Torre Annunziata, where the armed and masked criminals threatened the employees. Immediately afterward, the pair moved toward Torre del Greco, entering the second store and demanding the takings be handed over at gunpoint.
The State Police, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, immediately began investigative activities, focusing in particular on a careful and meticulous analysis of the images recorded by the public video surveillance system.
It was precisely from those frames, carefully examined by investigators, that the identity of one of the two alleged robbers emerged—with "reasonable certainty," as the investigators emphasized.
During subsequent searches, part of the stolen goods was also found, an element that helped strengthen the evidence against the 49-year-old.
After notification of the precautionary measure and the usual formalities, the man was transferred to the Naples Poggioreale prison, where he will remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities. Investigations are continuing to identify the accomplice, who is still at large.
