Pozzuoli - A decision made to take advantage of a beautiful day turned tragic. Vincenzo Sepe, 16, died in a car accident this morning in the Pozzuoli area while riding his scooter to school with a classmate.
Just before leaving home, his mother had advised him not to take the scooter and offered to drive him to Naples, where he was on a school trip. The boy, however, declined the invitation, choosing instead to ride the Honda SH 125 scooter his grandfather had given him last September.
The dramatic crash occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Via Fasano, just before the roundabout. Vincenzo was riding his scooter and had just picked up a friend, GI, 17, a resident of Bacoli, in front of the Pareto Institute. For reasons still under investigation, the two-wheeler collided sideways with a Fiat 500 coming from the opposite direction and headed toward Arco Felice.
The alarm was raised immediately, and officers from the Pozzuoli municipal police and 118 paramedics rushed to the scene. Rescuers attempted to revive the sixteen-year-old for over fifteen minutes, but were unable to do anything. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The friend who was traveling with him, however, is in very serious condition: the 17-year-old was rushed to Santa Maria delle Grazie Hospital, where he is currently hospitalized with a guarded prognosis.
According to an initial reconstruction by the municipal police, the collision was not a head-on collision. Given the road profile and the curve where the impact occurred, speeding has currently been ruled out as a possible factor. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and any potential culprits.
Meanwhile, the community is in shock over Vincenzo's death, a life cut short too soon, and over that maternal advice that went unheeded and that today weighs like a tragic regret.

This news is sobering about how dangerous scooters are, especially for young people. Despite parents' advice, people often make rash decisions that can have fatal consequences. I hope this tragedy serves as a lesson.
