Webuild, leading a consortium, has been awarded a contract worth approximately €660 million for the construction of the first section of Lot 1 of the new Line 10 of the Naples metro.

The contract involves the executive design and construction of the civil works for a fully automated line, destined to become a key aspect of sustainable mobility in the northeastern area of the Campania capital.

Lot 1 is part of a major infrastructure project estimated to be worth over €3,1 billion. Line 10 will connect the center of Naples to the Naples-Afragola high-speed railway station and, once fully operational, will provide over 400.000 residents with a rapid and efficient connection to the high-speed rail network.

The contract will be implemented in phases. The €660 million already awarded concerns Phase 1A, which involves the construction of an initial section of approximately 6,5 kilometers. The contract also grants the consortium the exclusive right to complete works up to a total value exceeding €1,7 billion, subject to the availability of the necessary funding.

With this award, Webuild strengthens its presence in Southern Italy, where it is currently involved in 19 infrastructure projects with a total awarded value exceeding €15 billion. The Group's operations in the region involve 8.700 employees, including direct and indirect personnel, and over 7.600 suppliers, as of June 30, 2025.

The Line 10 project is being developed in collaboration between the City of Naples and the Campania Region, with EAV as the implementing body, and is considered one of the most strategic projects for sustainable mobility in Southern Italy. The connection to the Naples-Afragola high-speed station—already built by Webuild—will strengthen the hub's role as a key hub between the regional rail system and the national high-speed network.

The overall length of Line 10 will be approximately 14 kilometers, almost entirely underground, with tunnels constructed using both traditional methods and TBMs. Phase 1A will involve the municipalities of Afragola, Casoria, Casavatore, and Naples, with the construction of seven stations, three complete and four partial.

The completion of the project includes an additional 7,3 kilometers of line, five new stations, the completion of those already underway, and ancillary works, including a park and ride facility serving the high-speed station.

Phase 1A alone is estimated to create up to 700 jobs, rising to approximately 1.500 with the completion of the entire line. The winning consortium includes Webuild, Eteria Consorzio Stabile, Costruire, ICM, and MN Metropolitana di Napoli.

With over 890 kilometers of metro lines built worldwide, Webuild is a leading global player in urban mobility. In Italy, the Group has contributed to the transformation of the metro networks of Naples, Milan, and Rome, while in Campania, it is also currently working on the Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity line and the Salerno-Reggio Calabria high-speed/high-capacity line, strategic projects in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T network.

This is important news for Naples, but I hope the work doesn't cause too much inconvenience to residents. The subway is essential for improving mobility, but it needs to be timely and smooth during construction.
