NAPLES – Tensions among workers at the 118 emergency service, operated by Hearth Life Croce Amica srl on behalf of the Naples 1 Local Health Authority, have eased, at least for now. The state of strike proclaimed in recent days was suspended following a meeting at the Prefecture convened by Prefect Michele di Bari, which brought together the company, unions, and representatives of the health authority.
At the heart of the debate are staff demands, which, through the unions UGL and Si Cobas, have highlighted the contractual framework and pay of healthcare workers engaged daily in emergency response. These issues, according to union delegates, directly impact the professional dignity and working conditions of those on the front lines of emergencies.
Hearth Life Croce Amica srl has expressed its willingness to explore the situation further. The company has committed to exploring possible financial adjustments, consistent with the performance of the existing contract. This openness has helped ease tensions and bring the discussion back to a technical level.
The Local Health Authority Napoli 1 Centro has also pledged its attention to the dispute, confirming its willingness to consider workers' needs in the upcoming service assignment. This step is considered crucial to try to stabilize contractual and salary conditions.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue discussions at the company headquarters. The decision to suspend the protest marks a pause in the protests, but the atmosphere remains tense: the commitments are now expected to be followed by concrete action, while the emergency service continues to provide assistance to citizens.
