Marcianise – There's no peace in the political balance of power in Terra di Lavoro. Following the cases of Portico di Caserta and Pignataro Maggiore, the Municipality of Marcianise also sees its administrative experience come to an early end.
This morning, January 20, 2026, thirteen city councilors tendered their resignations, officially marking the end of the term of office led by Mayor Antonio Trombetta.
The chronicle of the crisis
The administration's fall wasn't entirely unexpected. Trombetta, elected less than two years ago, had led a government characterized by structural fragility from the outset: his victory was marred by the phenomenon of split voting, with the mayor receiving more personal votes than the actual weight of the lists supporting him.
A precarious balance that was definitively shattered today with the submission of the ultra-reduced resignation, the formal act that "pulls the plug" on the city government without going through a debate in the chamber.
The intervention of the Prefecture
The state's reaction was immediate. Lucia Volpe, Prefect of Caserta, acknowledged the situation and ordered the suspension of the City Council. She has already submitted a formal proposal for its definitive dissolution to the Ministry of the Interior.
To ensure administrative continuity and ongoing management of business in the coming months, Deputy Prefect Biagio Del Prete has been appointed as Prefectural Commissioner. He will lead the populous Caserta area until the next elections.
An unstable territory
Trombetta's departure worsens the situation of political stability in the province of Caserta. With Marcianise, three municipalities have been dissolved in just twenty days since the beginning of 2026. This signal of strong political turmoil is affecting one of the most important industrial and demographic centers in the area, leaving the major issues of local planning and PNRR funding open, which will inevitably be passed to the commissioner.
