The fire is flaring up again in Ponticelli, a never-ending powder keg on the eastern outskirts of Naples. Around 8:00 PM this evening, the red code for violence was triggered at the Ospedale del Mare and Villa Betania, where a 23-year-old man, Roberto N., presented himself with apparent gunshot wounds to his lower limbs.
A proper "knee-jerking," a warning that in gangland jargon sounds like an ultimatum. The young man, treated urgently by paramedics, was declared out of danger, but remains hospitalized under close observation.
As often happens in these situations, a wall of silence immediately broke out: when questioned by the Carabinieri who arrived on the scene, the 23-year-old provided no useful information to reconstruct what happened, nor did he precisely identify the location of the ambush.
The scenario: winds of war between the clans
Carabinieri investigators, however, don't believe it's a coincidence. According to investigative rumors leaked in the last few hours, the victim appears to have been involved in circles close to the De Micco clan, the infamous "Bodo" clan, which dominated the neighborhood but was constantly challenged.
If the connection to the De Miccos is confirmed, tonight's wounding would take on the disturbing aspect of a retaliation or a gauntlet thrown down by the historic rivals. In the background, in fact, looms the eternal and bloody feud with the De Luca Bossa-Minichini cartel.
Today's episode threatens to spark a new escalation of violence among the high-rise buildings of Ponticelli, where the armed truce appears to have reached its breaking point.
