Naples – He borrowed his cousin's scooter, claiming he needed to buy medicine for his sick father. Instead, Giuseppe Emanuele Di Pinto, a 32-year-old resident of the Torretta di Chiaia area, allegedly used the vehicle to commit a robbery on Via Agrillo, in Fuorigrotta.

The victim, a young woman driving her car, was violently attacked: the man ripped a gold necklace from her neck, causing a sprain to her shoulder and neck.

The incident, which occurred between June and September of last year, ended yesterday with the arrest of the 32-year-old by Carabinieri from the Fuorigrotta station following a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples.

Two decisive elements betrayed Di Pinto: the scooter's license plate and the tattoos visible on the body, probably captured in video surveillance images or in the victim's description.

Carabinieri investigators have reconstructed the incident, linking it to two other crimes the same man is accused of, both in the Naples waterfront area. These are two aggravated thefts: the first involving an electric bicycle, committed in the entrance hall of a building on Viale Gramsci; the second involving an electric scooter, committed in the courtyard of a building on Via Caracciolo.

Both robberies—presumably preceded by thorough on-site inspections—were carried out alone and both took place between June and September of last year. The immediate complaints filed by the victims led to the investigations being consolidated into a single criminal case.

Di Pinto is charged with aggravated robbery and two aggravated thefts. It should be remembered that the suspect is presumed innocent until a final conviction is reached.
