The Carabinieri of the Naples Vomero Company's Operational Unit have executed a precautionary custody order against a 46-year-old man, seriously suspected of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The arrest is the result of a complex investigative effort coordinated by the VII "Urban Security" Section of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, which allowed the detailed reconstruction of an episode of particular violence against an elderly woman.

According to reports, the suspect—who was on semi-liberty at the time—identified a 77-year-old woman near a bus stop. Approaching her on the street, he forcefully grabbed her, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her head violently against a wall.

Immediately afterward, he allegedly tore the necklace from her neck and fled on a motorcycle, the license plate of which was partially obscured.

The investigations were made possible thanks to the identification of the victim and the analysis of the video surveillance systems present in the area, which made it possible to follow the phases of the robbery and the movements of the perpetrator.

During the judicial police operations, the military also found and seized the helmet, clothing, and shoes worn by the man during the crime, elements that strengthened the evidence against him.
The man is now in prison, awaiting further developments in the investigation.

It's incredible that things like this happen in Naples, but unfortunately, violence is on the rise and older people are increasingly vulnerable. We hope the authorities can do more to protect citizens.
