The 118-year-old man from Cautano, in the province of Benevento, who fell off a cliff on Mount Taburno while hiking, died in hospital. The man had been rescued yesterday by firefighters and emergency medical services, who responded to a particularly inaccessible area that made recovery operations complex.
After being located and rescued, the elderly man was transported to Benevento hospital in the evening in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he died from the injuries sustained in the fall.
The alarm was raised by family members, concerned that the man, who had been out for a hike in the Taburno massif, had not returned. The search concluded with his discovery in the ravine, turning a day spent outdoors into a tragedy.

It's truly sad that a hike can end in tragedy. The mountains are beautiful, but they can sometimes be dangerous. I hope people will be careful when going to places like this and not underestimate the risks.
