Aversa – Moments of fear this morning in the heart of Aversa, where a sudden road collapse nearly turned tragic. Near the church of San Rocco, right along the perimeter fence of the prison toward Via Gaspare Virgilio, the heavy paving gave way under the wheels of a Tekra vehicle, the company responsible for municipal waste management.
The accident occurred in a fraction of a second: the historic pavement couldn't support the weight of the vehicle, which was partially engulfed by the road. Fortunately, despite the strong jolt and the risk of it overturning, no injuries were reported among the sanitation workers or passersby who were in the area at that time.
Municipal technicians and law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene of the accident to cordon off the area and begin to remove the vehicle. The damage to the vehicle appears significant, but residents are more concerned about the state of the city's roads.
Today's incident is yet another wake-up call for a well-known situation: in several parts of the historic center, the paving is visibly uneven or lacking the necessary sealing between the stone blocks. According to initial reports, the subsidence is a symptom of widespread deterioration of the subsoil and the pavement, requiring an urgent extraordinary maintenance plan to ensure traffic safety and the safety of residents.
