Casoria – A tragedy narrowly avoided only thanks to the promptness of the rescue services and a bit of luck.

On Via Cavour, in the heart of Casoria, a building collapsed in the early hours of today. The toll, which could have been dramatic, fortunately reported no injuries: the building had been evacuated as a precaution by firefighters less than 24 hours earlier.

The alarm and the evacuation

It all began yesterday, when a loud bang shook the neighborhood, putting residents on high alert. The immediate intervention of the fire department and the monitoring of technicians prompted the mayor to order the emergency evacuation of about twenty families.

Those involved found shelter with friends and relatives, while the area was cordoned off with the closure of two nearby roads.

The causes: the mystery of the water main

According to initial reconstructions, the structural failure was triggered by the rupture of an underground water main. The water infiltration compromised the stability of the foundations, leading to today's collapse. The collapse caused an immediate water supply interruption to the entire surrounding area.

The intervention of the Campania Region

The institutional relief effort was immediately activated. The Regional Civil Protection Department, in consultation with President Roberto Fico, dispatched two 15-liter water tankers operated by SMA Campania to the scene to address the water shortage.

"We are on site to closely monitor the situation and provide maximum support to the municipal administration and the citizens involved," said the regional councilor for Civil Protection, Fiorella Zabatta, who arrived on Via Cavour to coordinate the response.

Technicians are currently working to secure the remains of the building and assess the safety of neighboring buildings, while they wait for the normal water supply to be restored to residents.

Today's incident was a terrible one. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the evacuation was necessary and understandable. We hope the causes are clarified quickly and the situation returns to normal.
