Casoria: 90 people evacuated after building collapse

Casoria – Tensions remain high in Casoria, where the partial collapse of a building last Friday forced the precautionary evacuation of approximately 90 people.

A heavy toll for the local community, which saw dozens of families abandon their homes in a matter of moments, saved only by those suspicious "creaking" sounds that had triggered the alarm shortly before the collapse.

Currently, the emergency management involves 60 residents staying in local hotels, while the remaining 30 have found independent accommodation with relatives.

This morning, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, chaired a meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center (CCS) to review the safety measures. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Casoria, Raffaele Bene, and Regional Councilor Fiorella Zabatta, who is already active on the ground at the Municipal Operations Center.

The shadow of infiltrations

The technical investigations, conducted by the Fire Department and municipal offices, are focusing on the critical issues in the subsoil. The cause of the landslide appears to have been a significant water infiltration, which the local water company's technicians are working tirelessly to address.

However, the situation remains unstable: the area is still closed to traffic and, for security reasons, families have not yet been allowed to return to their apartments, not even to collect their personal belongings.

Safety and assistance

To prevent looting in abandoned homes, the police have set up a 24-hour surveillance service. On the healthcare front, the ASL Napoli 2 Nord is providing emergency medical services, while Councilor Zabatta has confirmed the construction of a tent structure that will serve as a distribution point for essential goods.

Maximum vigilance remains: monitoring of the area will continue in the coming hours to assess any further ground settlement and plan, as soon as possible, the safe return or recovery of residents' belongings.
