The Popular Democratic and Progressive Party (PBPD) is breaking the deadlock and bringing the Fincantieri dispute to the City Council. This morning, Councilor Maurizio Apuzzo filed a formal request to the mayor and the prime minister for an urgent meeting of the group leaders to promote a single-issue City Council meeting on the future of the Castellammare shipyard.

«The discussion can no longer be postponed», states Apuzzo, who justifies the initiative by recalling the appeal launched by the trade unions at the end of the meeting held in Rome between the CEO of Fincantieri, Pier Roberto Folgiero, and the general secretaries of Fim, Fiom and Uilm on the contents of the new 2026-2030 Industrial Plan.

According to the Base Popolare councilor, the concerns expressed by the unions cannot be ignored, particularly those regarding the investments needed to make the Castellammare shipyard competitive. "The plant's infrastructure," he emphasizes, "is currently inadequate to support the new workloads envisaged in the industrial plan."

Apuzzo also points out that the issue is not new to the local political agenda. "On July 9th, I submitted a request to find out what initiatives the administration intended to undertake, in consultation with the trade unions, to quickly define the project, objectives, and investments needed to ensure a viable future for our construction site. Six months have passed since then without a response."

Hence the call for speed. "In light of the unions' appeal and the administration's silence, we can no longer postpone the discussion," Apuzzo concludes. "Castellammare is the only site lagging behind in the transformations and investments Fincantieri has made at its other plants."

It's important to have a serious discussion about Fincantieri's future in Castellammare. Councilor Apuzzo's request seems justified, but we hope the administration responds promptly. We can't wait any longer.
