Naples – An ordinary afternoon turns terrifying at the bus stop on Corso Amedeo di Savoia. A criminal riding a scooter with a covered license plate approaches a 53-year-old woman waiting for public transportation and violently attempts to snatch her purse.
The lightning attack and the intervention of the Carabinieri
Within seconds, the victim was thrown to the ground. Her desperate screams dissuaded the robber, who sped away. The Carabinieri from the Capodimonte station, on anti-pickpocket duty in civilian clothes, proved providential: they managed to capture the scooter's license plate number despite the cover.
Home invasion: escape from the balcony and arrest
A few minutes later, investigators identified the vehicle and traced its owner: Alessandro Nacarlo, a 52-year-old Neapolitan with a criminal record. Carabinieri raided his apartment. The man attempted to flee from the balcony but was stopped and arrested on the spot.
The woman suffered only minor abrasions and a serious scare, but the incident rekindles concerns about petty crime in central Naples. Nacarlo, already known for property crimes, is now in prison awaiting a summary trial. The investigation continues to identify any possible accomplices.

This episode is truly worrying, but what can we citizens do to protect ourselves? We can't always wait for the authorities to intervene. I hope there are more checks around to improve public safety.
