A tired Napoli, lacking clarity, and also lacking luck. This is the snapshot taken by Cristian Stellini after the 0-0 draw at the Maradona stadium against Parma. The Napoli assistant coach, speaking to DAZN, pinpointed incidents and physical condition as the keys to the draw that halted Conte's team's run.
"We lacked a bit of luck," he explained. "There were a lot of incidents inside the box, but we never got the right rebound. In the first half, we lacked speed and quality in our passing to get to the cross more often, and above all, we lacked energy."
A decline that Stellini directly links to the recent tour de force: "We've been playing with the same players for a while now. Sometimes, when you play so many games, every two or three days you have a game where they lack clarity. And it showed in the first half."
Despite the misstep, the coach urges players not to lose their composure and confidence. "Now we need to stay focused and work on the players' mentality, keeping the team united and compact.
We've had a lot of players out for a while, and we don't know when they'll be back, so we have to rely on who's available. The guys are giving more than 100%, they're always trying."
Another issue remains the difficulty in overcoming very closed opponents. "We struggle against teams that defend deep and compact, and we haven't found the right moment to attack them. Added to this is a bit of bad luck with VAR, which never works in our favor to break the deadlock," Stellini added.
Finally, a clarification on Neres' late substitution: "He had a problem against Lazio. He said he was available to play, but his speed and changes of direction caused him to feel pain. He wasn't completely well, and that's why we took him off."
Another sign of a Napoli that, amid fatigue and injuries, is still searching for the key to regaining brilliance and consistency.
