Naples – A parking garage in the heart of Vomero, in Piazza degli Artisti, has come under fire from the Carabinieri for its completely illegal energy supply system. Officers from the Vomero station, during an inspection supported by the local police, discovered that the entire garage was drawing power directly from the public grid without any meters to record consumption.

The situation regarding the electric vehicle charging stations installed in the facility was particularly serious: not only did they function without proper connections, but they were also offered to customers upon payment of an additional fee.

In practice, the owners provided their users with a paid service using energy stolen from the grid, thus committing a double crime: electricity theft and unfair profit at the expense of the customers.

Upon completion of the inspections, it was also discovered that the business was operating without a SCIA (Certified Notification of Commencement of Business), had no authorized sign, and lacked a properly granted driveway. The three owners were reported to the judicial authorities for aggravated electricity theft.

At the same time, administrative fines totaling €1.770 were imposed, along with the suspension of operations until regular operations are restored. The case, which emerged in recent days, confirms the attention of law enforcement agencies towards forms of illegal activity which, in addition to damaging the treasury and network operators, distort fair competition between operators in the sector and put the safety of electrical systems at risk.

I agree with you, the situation is worrying and shouldn't be happening. But how can we ensure safety when these irregularities exist? More needs to be done to stop this behavior.

It's very strange that in such a central location as Vomero, businesses operate without permits. I hope that controls will be intensified to prevent these abuses. Safety is important.
