Naples – Tensions are rising again in the Stella neighborhood. Last night, Carabinieri from the Stella District Police Department responded urgently to Via Carlo De Marco following an attempted arson attack on the home of a 45-year-old man.
According to initial reports, unknown individuals attempted to set fire to the building's front door. Fortunately, the fire did not spread, and the flames were extinguished before causing structural damage or injuries.
Despite the failure of the attack, malicious intent appears to be the most likely theory for investigators, who have conducted on-site surveys to identify traces of accelerants.
The shadow of the past
The seemingly isolated incident takes on a far more disturbing connotation when placed in the geographical context in which it occurred. Via Carlo De Marco is, in fact, the same area where the perpetrators of one of the bloodiest incidents of recent months live: the murder of Marco Pio Salomone.
The young man, just 18 years old, was killed last November outside an arcade, shot to death by a 15-year-old who later confessed to the crime.
At this time, the Carabinieri are not ruling out any possible leads. Investigators suspect there may be a common thread between last night's attempted arson and the delicate balance (or possible resentments) that arose in the aftermath of the Salomone murder.
Investigations are still ongoing to clarify the exact dynamics of the event and, above all, to identify the motive that drove the attackers to strike the 45-year-old's home.

This news is very worrying and shows how tense the situation in the Stella neighborhood is. I hope the investigation yields quick results, but I'm also concerned for the safety of the residents in this area.
